Genesis Chapter 6
The Rev Thomas Stackhouse in his book – ‘History of the Holy Bible’ dated 1839 gives this sequence. Just imagine yourself as a grandchild of Noah in the ark, with all its smells and noises.
September – Methuslah, Granddad's Granddad died. He was 969 years old - - very very old. He was the last person who knew Adam. Granddad says he knew a lot about the things that had gone on.
October – Granddad told us all to go into the ark. It was noisy and smelly. There was lots to do.
November 17th – The fountains of the great deep were broken. These 'fountains' were not water, as some imagine, but gasses and dust.
December 26th – It never stopped raining. The rain began and continued for almost six weeks….day and night. We wondered what was going to happen, but knew that Granddad was in God's hands and he would protect us. We were very busy.
January – All the men and beasts that were upon the earth were buried under the waters.
February – The rain continued….Rain Rain. Rain…….all the month until it was March, when the rain stopped.
March – The waters remained in their elevation until the 27th March when they began to abate.
April 17th – The Ark rested on Mt Ararat.
May – We did nothing while the waters were retreating.
June 1st – Great excitement as the tops of the mountains appeared.
July 11th – Noah let go a Raven, which returned to him no more.
July 18th – Noah let go a dove, which returned.
July 25th – Noah let go the dove again, which returned with an olive branch.
August 2nd – The dove went out the third time and returned no more.
September 1st – Dry land appeared.
October 27th – We all went out of the ark. The ground was dry..
